Broome Youth Accommodation Service

Broome Youth Accommodation Service is a partnership between Nirrumbuk Youth Services, Department of Community Development and Homeswest to provide transitional accommodation, relief and assistance to homeless young people in the Kullarri region.

Broome Youth Accommodation Service provides young people aged 16- 25 years who are homeless or at imminent risk of homelessness with safe, secure and affordable housing. We also provide assistance with learning to live independently and support in developing a positive future.

BYAS operates a number of households in the Broome Area who require medium to long externally supported accommodation.  BYAS staff do not live on site, but regularly visit.

BYAS is a partnership program whereby Department of Housing and Works is the landlord and BYAS provides the support to each household and individual tenant.

BYAS will also provide support to young people who require assistance to maintain their tenancies in either public or private housing.

The Youth Accommodation Service is not a crisis accommodation service and therefore residents are able to stay longer dependant on their circumstances.

To Be Eligible for Assistance you must meet the following eligibility criteria!

  • Currently accommodated or about to be accommodated either with Homeswest or a private tenancy.
  • Can you provide support letters from a Social Worker, Counsellor, DR or teacher stating that you are homeless or at risk of homelessness?
  • Are you from the Shire of Broome or have close family contacts in the area?
  • Are you between the ages of 16-25 years of age
